Stars started on a grass track marked out with a pegged rope around the outside and in side to stop coner cutting. A grant of £6,000 was obtained from the Foundation for Sports and Arts (F.S.A) and with assistance from colchester borough council a shale raceway was built.
The corners are 1/8 banked to save muck away of the sub soil. our race surface is arbury clay based shale which offers excellent grip. The raceway is 5 1/2 metres wide and 67metres long.
